In recent years, terms like “Zionism” and “Zionist” have become the topic of much heated debate across social media and other public forums. These terms have come to be used as pejorative slurs, meant to be equated with “racism” and “racist”, and used as fodder for hateful speech in factions across the ideological spectrum. But what is Zionism? How did the term, and the Zionist movement in general, originate? In this three-part series, Rabbi Ross will teach about the origins and development of modern Zionism from its early beginnings to the founding of the State of Israel. The class will include discussions of the different forms of Zionism and how they led to the Israel we see today.
