Youth Groups

JYG (6th – 8th Grade)

JYG is the Junior Youth Group designed for 6th-8th graders who are looking to create long-lasting friendships and memories among their Jewish peers. Our goal is to foster a welcoming environment through interactive programming that allows young teens to simply have fun and be themselves. While Temple Israel hosts the events, JYG is open to all Jewish middle schoolers throughout the Memphis community.

A new addition to the program is the JYG board. The board provides a leadership opportunity for elected 8th graders to create and lead events throughout the school year. If you feel that your child would be interested in running for a board position, email Sophie Chertow to learn how!

Rain or shine, virtual or in-person, our events are held monthly on Wednesday evenings from 6 – 7:30 pm. It is never too late to join JYG. An email will be sent with registration information, but if you have not received any communications and would like to register, please email Sophie Chertow.

JYG is made possible by a generous grant from the Memphis Jewish Federation.

MeFTY (9th – 12th Grade)

MeFTY is the Temple Youth Group for our 9th-12th grades. This community gives teens an opportunity to socialize and connect with their Jewish peers outside of their TI CHAI classrooms. Whether we are in-person or virtual, MeFTY is designed to bring teens together. We offer various events ranging from “Chopped” cooking competitions to movie nights under the stars. MeFTY is also a place for exploring Judaism and leaving a positive impact on the Memphis community.

If your teen is interested in a leadership role, MeFTY board elections are held every Spring for the following school year. The board gains event planning experience, volunteer hours, and a strong sense of accomplishment after seeing their hard work pay off at their events. Please contact Sophie Chertow for more information about running for a MeFTY board position.
